What's on your mind?
There's a saying: A tidy space is a tidy mind.
I'm not sure I entirely go for that; you should see my desk.
As stuff piles in, piles pile up. But I understand the point, because when I do get round to creating some sort of order, my mind feels a little clearer.
So, in general, an organised and clear workspace reflects your overall state of mind. The cleaner and more organised your working area is, the more efficient you likely are.
I've also read that organising a clean working space helps in reducing stress and increasing productivity.
I think this is only in relation to making sure you have things to hand. I know how much of a pain in the arse it is when you can't find something you desperately need.
We've a space in our kitchen that is dedicated to home paperwork. Ask me to find something specific in amongst it and you'll be waiting a while.
So, today's small business tip is: Bring some order to your paperwork.
Arrange your documents and files in neat piles and manage your working space by removing any unwanted papers or materials.
If you can at least bring some order to your paperwork, when the time does come to find something, you'll know exactly where to look.
I believe it was Einstein who famously pointed out that: "If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then, is an empty desk a sign?"
Don't go for empty, go for orderly.
