Sparkling advice for those starting a business

>> But equally relevant for those in business <<

I realise that people reading our blogs are not all established businesses.

There's a lot of you out there with an idea in mind. You've a spark of something that you believe you can build a business around.

You might have spent days, weeks, months or even years with this idea developing away in your mind.

Today this idea might be built out into a fully-fledged business plan. For others, it's an idea still gnawing away at you in your brain.

Myself and my business partner Lindsey were at this stage 10 years ago before we took the leap into the dark to begin Business Buddies. And I don't use the word leap lightly.

We were both employed, earning a steady, guaranteed, salary. But we both had very young children. It was a significant risk to leave employment.

It wasn't until a conversation with an electrician friend of ours that the spark of the idea took a fully formed shape and we decided to take the plunge.

Without more than a basic plan to go by we started Business Buddies. And, as I say, 10 years later here we are. Helping businesses, perhaps like yours, to run a little easier.

We've certainly had our share of ups and downs, and we continue to learn every day. But if you ask us whether we regret taking the plunge all those years ago, the answer is definitely no.

And so today's small business tip is this: if you have an idea you are certain of, regardless of whether you already have a business or not, is to go for it. Find a way to make it happen.

Obviously do your homework and take the necessary precautions, but sometimes if you don't take the plunge into the deep-end then you will never find out whether your idea could have been a success.

Thanks for reading, and keep an eye on our blog at www.business-buddies.co.uk for more small business advice.

Best, Lindsey
